Maps and Navigation Apps for Android: GPS, Traffic and Offline Routes

Two ways to get from A to B
Navigation apps split into two camps. Some, like Sygic, work from downloaded maps and keep guiding you when the signal drops. Others, like Waze, lean on live reports from other drivers to route around jams, police checks and road works. Neither is better for every trip, so match the tool to the journey. If you need broader place discovery, see travel and local, and for the driving side the car and bus tags help.
Apps in this tag
- Sygic GPS Navigation and Maps MOD (Premium Unlocked): a turn by turn navigator known for offline maps, offered here with premium features unlocked
- Waze Navigation and Live Traffic: a community driven navigator that routes using live traffic reports
How to choose a navigation app
Think about where you drive. In a city with heavy traffic, a live app is valuable, because rerouting only works when many drivers send data. On long trips or in places with weak coverage, offline maps matter more, so check whether the app lets you download a region before leaving. Look at voice guidance, speed camera alerts and lane guidance, and decide whether you prefer a paid premium feature set. For walking or transit, a driving navigator is not the best fit, and a general maps app may serve you better. Our tools and lifestyle tags include other everyday helpers.
What to check before installing
Navigation apps need location permission and good GPS, and live ones need a data connection, so check your plan. Look at the Android version and how big the map data will be, because offline maps can take a lot of storage. A premium unlocked build can differ from the original in features, licensing and map updates, and some functions that rely on a server, such as live traffic or account sync, may not work in a modified client. Never rely on a modified app for a critical trip without testing the route first, and keep another map app as a backup. Replace the package yourself when updates arrive.
