Security Apps for Android: VPNs, App Lockers and More

What you will find in this security collection

This tag is not one neat category. It mixes VPN clients, a calculator-style photo vault and even a launcher, so read each card as a separate tool rather than as interchangeable antivirus apps. If you only need a tunnel for public Wi-Fi, head straight to VPN services. If your goal is hiding photos and chats from someone holding your phone, the privacy tag is closer.

How to choose the right tool for the job

Start with the problem. A VPN encrypts the link between your phone and the VPN server, which helps on cafe Wi-Fi, but it also means you are trusting that server operator with your traffic. A free VPN has to earn money somewhere, so check the permissions it asks for and read its privacy policy before relying on it.

An app locker solves a completely different problem: nosy people with physical access to your phone. For that, look at how the unlock works, whether a fake cover screen is offered, and whether hidden files stay on the device or sync somewhere.

What to check before installing

Confirm the minimum Android version on the card page, and look at the file size so you are not surprised on mobile data. VPN apps need permission to create a VPN connection, and lockers usually want accessibility or overlay access.

Be extra careful with the MOD build. A premium unlocked VPN is modified code sitting between you and the internet, and the unlock may stop working after a server update. For anything sensitive, prefer the original release and keep a backup of the files you hide. More background is in our guides, and you can browse everything else under apps or MOD.
