Survival Games for Android: Crafting, Zombies and Raids

Survival means different things in different games

On mobile, survival can mean gathering wood and building a shelter, fending off zombies at night, or defending your bed against other players. The common thread is pressure: hunger, danger and limited resources push you to plan. If you prefer building without the pressure, try sandbox games. If the zombies are what drew you in, see zombie games.

How to choose a survival game you will actually keep playing

Decide on your pace first. Slow crafting games reward patience and are good for short daily sessions, because progress is saved by your own base. Competitive modes such as Bed Wars are about reaction and teamwork, so they suit friends playing together. Next, check how the game treats death. Some drop your items, some only set you back a little, and a harsh penalty can feel exhausting on a commute. Finally, look at how much the game leans on timers and in-app purchases, since slow gathering is where MOD versions tend to matter most. If you lean toward fear, the survival horror tag is the better fit.

Before you download

Check the minimum Android version and the file size on each card page. Open-world survival titles can need a lot of storage once extra data is downloaded, and some need an internet connection for servers or events. A purely single-player build is a better choice for flights and weak signal.

With MOD builds, expect things like unlimited resources or unlocked items in single-player games. In online modes the server may reject a modified client, so the game can refuse to start or may reset progress. Keep a copy of the original APK just in case.
